Michigan AWIS news and updates
Thanks to everyone for a great year! We had a fun end-of-year dinner, YSE was a smashing success, and our professional development events were well-attended. Things will be quiet over the summer, but look for us in the fall! We'll be:
- Hosting our fall event (date/details TBD)
- Opening our mentoring circle applications
- Starting with our new board!
The Board of Directors for 2019-2020 will be:
- Anna Michmerhuizen: Grants and admin
- Taylor Soucy: Mentorship
- Jackie Wrage: YSE/Outreach
- Madeline Cooke, Grace Chesmore: Mentorship trainee
- Kamya Gopal, Kristien Parson: YSE Coordinator
We'd like to thank our retiring board members Haley, Sydney, and Becca! Haley has been working largely behind-the-scenes to help AWIS secure funding, especially for YSE; Sydney is the mastermind behind many of our other events, like the PI and postdoc panels; and Becca has been running our communications.
Open positions on our Board of Directors
We have two open positions on our board! Director of Communications and Director of Membership Engagement. If you're interested in either of these positions, please email us!
Director of Membership. This is a vital role in our organization - you'll help us organize our social and professional development events! We are always open to new ideas for what sort of programming we should offer for our members.
Director of Communications. Can't get enough of #ScienceTwitter and insta? Like highlighting inspiring women in our community? Join our board as the Communications director!
Full descriptions of positions can be found here. We meet every other week during the school year, and the typical time commitment is just a few hours per week.
Tag us on Instagram (@awis_um) & Twitter (@AWiS_UM) so we can share your awesome research and outreach work! Doing cool fieldwork? Share it! Stuck in lab pipetting for the ninth straight hour? Share that too!
Know someone who inspires and pushes you? Tell us who your mentors are - we will highlight them in a mini-profile on Instagram! (They can be anyone - a faculty advisor, colleague, or even your mom!)
